1988 Ordzhonikidze bus hijacking
The LAZ-687 bus was hijacked in Ordzhonikidze, Soviet Union, on 1 December 1988. It was carrying 30 fourth-grade pupils and one teacher from school 42. The children were used as a human shield and bargaining chip. The authorities conceded to the hijackers’ demands and provided an Ilyushin Il-76 aircraft to fly them to Israel.
