The film received generally mixed to poor reviews by critics on release, and, according to its producer, \”nearly killed the franchise\”. The next entry in the series, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, received a much more positive reception. It had the highest opening gross of any Star Trek movie at that point. It was number one in its first week at the box office; however, its grosses quickly dropped in subsequent weeks. The movie was released in North America on June 9, 1989, and went on to be a box office success. It has been hailed as one of the best films of the 1990s by many critics and fans of the Trek franchise. The final episode of the series was released on December 17, 2009. The last episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation is released on January 25, 2009, and the second episode of The Next Trek: TNG is scheduled to be released on February 14, 2009 . The third episode of TNG will be released in March 2009. It will be the first of two episodes of the new series, TNG: The Return of the Spock. The fourth episode of Trek: the Next Generation will be aired on March 17, 2010.

The fifth episode of this series will be Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, released on March 25, 2011. The seventh and final episode will be Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Quest for the Fountain of Youth, released in May 2011. It follows the adventures of the Enterprise crew on a mission to find the mythical planet Sha Ka Ree. The eighth and final film in the Trek series is Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, released September 21, 2011, and released on October 1, 2012. The sixth and final installment of the film series is The Wrath of the Khan: The Arrival, released October 25, 2012, and followed by Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, released November 1, 2013. The films’ final episode is scheduled for release on November 14, 2013, and it will be followed by the seventh and eighth films in theseries. The ninth and final movie in the franchise is  Star Trek VII: The Last Frontier, released December 21, 2013 and released by Paramount Pictures on December 28, 2014. The first two films were directed by co-stars Leonard Nimoy and DeForest Kelley. The script went through multiple revisions to please the cast and Paramount Pictures. Many Star Trek veterans assisted in the film’s production; art director Nilo Rodis developed the designs for many of the movie’s locales, shots, and characters, while Herman Zimmerman served as its production designer.
