About Sorga Ka Toedjoe in brief

Summary Sorga Ka ToedjoeSorga Ka Toedjoe is a 1940 film from the Dutch East Indies. It was directed by Joshua and Othniel Wong for Tan’s Film. The black-and-white film featured kroncong music and was targeted at lower-class native audiences. It starred Roekiah, Rd. Mochtar, Kartolo, Annie Landouw and Djoemala. The film is now thought to have been lost. It follows an older couple who are reunited by another, younger couple after years of separation. It is the first production by Tan’s after the departure of Rd Moch tar, who left the company following a wage dispute following Siti Akbari, the film’s romantic foil. The Wongs had worked for the company since 1938, when they directed the hit film Fatima, helping to reestablish the company after it had been dissolved in 1932.

They acted together in three more films before Tan’s closed in 1942, and the film was a commercial and critical success. It has been described as one of the best films of the 1940s in the Netherlands. The movie was released in cinemas across the country, but has never been released on home release in the U.S. or Europe. The soundtrack has been released in a number of countries, including the UK, Australia, Canada, Japan, Australia and New Zealand, but not the United States.
