Mercedes Justine Kaestner-Varnado is an American professional wrestler and actress. She is currently signed to WWE as a member of the SmackDown brand under the ring name Sasha Banks. She previously wrestled on the independent circuit, most notably for Chaotic Wrestling. She was promoted to WWE’s main roster in July 2015, going on to hold the Raw Women’s Championship five times. She has appeared in two films, one of which is based on her autobiography, “Sasha Banks: The Truth Behind The Sasha Banks Story”

She was promoted to WWE’s main roster in July 2015, going on to hold the Raw Women’s Championship five times. In 2020, she was named the top black wrestler in the world in a newly-published list entitled \”BW 500\”, further recognized by Pro Wrestling Illustrated. She won the inaugural WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship with her former tag team partner, Bayley, at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view in February 2019. Her match against Bayley at NXT TakeOver: Respect on October 7, 2015, was the first women’s match to ever headline a NXT Take over, the first Iron Woman match in WWE history, and the longest women’s Match of the Year. She has appeared in two films, one of which is based on her autobiography, “Sasha Banks: The Truth Behind The Sasha Banks Story” She has also appeared in a number of television shows, including “The Walking Dead” and “American Horror Story: Coven” She is the daughter of former WWE wrestler and WWE Hall of Fame inductee, Jerry Lawler, and is the sister of actor Danny Varnado, who appeared in the film “The Godfather: Part II” in 2011. She also has an autistic brother, who she helped find schools and hospitals for in the U.S.

She grew up watching All Japan Women’s Pro-Wrestling. She is of African American descent and European German descent on her fathers side. She made her in-ring debut on October 1, 2010 in an intergender tag team match, where she teamed with Nikki Roxx in a losing effort to Alexxis and Danny E. KV continued competing in singles matches throughout the remainder of 2011. On August 17, 2012, she signed a contract with WWE, thus ending her reign at 259 days. She returned to the NECW on September 4, 2011, teaming with Ivy Ivy to defeat the team of Ariel and Sam Lane. On September 23, KV defeated Mistress Belmont and Veda Scott in a singles match and again on July 14, 2012 at Red White White White. On October 22, Kv lost her debut singles match to Danny E, and lost a rematch to him on November 13. On December 2 defeated AlexXis in a \”I Quit\” match to win the Chaotic wrestling Women’s championship for the first time. On June 1, 2013, she became the longest reigning Chaoticrestling Women’s Champion in history by breaking Alexx is’s previous record of 182 days. On July 18, 2013 she lost the championship to Ivy Fit Fit in a non-title match. She went on to defend and retain the championship against Barbie on June 24, against Aida Marie on July 20, and against Kasey Ray on August 17.
