Salford City Football Club is a professional football club based in Salford, England. Founded in 1940, the club won the Lancashire Amateur Cup in 1971, 1973, and 1975, and the Manchester Premier Cup in 1978 and 1979. They won promotion to the Northern Premier League in 2008, and were crowned NPL Division One North champions in 2015. In 2016, they won the NPL Premier Division play-offs, and won the National League North title in 2018. In 2019, they were promoted to the English Football League after winning the 2019 National League play-off final, this time under the stewardship of Graham Alexander.

In 2016, they won the NPL Premier Division play-offs, and won the National League North title in 2018. In 2019, they were promoted to the English Football League after winning the 2019 National League play-off final, this time under the stewardship of Graham Alexander. The club have played their home games at Moor Lane since 1989, which underwent a major transformation between 2016 and 2017. Former Manchester United players Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, and Paul Scholes each own 10% of the club, with Singaporean businessman Peter Lim owning the rest. David Beckham purchased a 10% share from Lim in 2019. Club’s nickname, ‘The Ammies’, stems from the club name used from the early 1960s to the early 1970s, Salfords Amateurs. The team’s anthem is ‘Dirty Old Town’, a song written by local Ewan MacColl in 1949, and recorded by The Pogues in 1949. They are currently in League Two, the fourth tier of the English football league system, after promotion from National League in the 2018–19 season.

They have won the FA Cup three times, most recently in 2002, when they beat Manchester City 3–1 in the final. They also reached the fourth round of the FA Vase in the 1980–81 season, losing 2–0 to eventual winners Whickham. In 2002, they made another appearance in the Premier Cup final, but lost 3-1 to Curzon Ashton. The following season, they returned to the final of the Cup for the first time to mark the 50th anniversary of the clubs 50-year anniversary, losing 3-0 to Warrington Town. In 2005, they reached the final again, losing to Curzon Ashton 3–0 on the final day of the season. In 2008, they joined the Cheshire County League in 1980, which amalgamated into the North West Counties Football League two years later. They again changed their name in 1989 to SalfORD City, and secured promotion into the first division of the NWCFL in 2008. In 2011, they moved to Moor Lane, and moved into their current home Moor Lane in 1978. In 2012, they played in the FA League Cup third round, but were knocked out by Wrexham in the semi-finals. In 2013, they entered the FA FA Cup fourth round for the second time, losing 1-0 against Warrington. In 2014, they became the first English club to win the League Cup in 50 years. In 2015, they also won the Manchester League Cup, beating Aintree Villa 4-0 at Old Trafford in extra time.
