Roger Moore

Sir Roger George Moore KBE was an English actor. He is best known for portraying fictional secret agent James Bond in the Eon Productions film series. On television, Moore played the lead role of Simon Templar, the title character in the British television series The Saint. Moore was appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 1991 and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2003 for services to charity.

On television, Moore played the lead role of Simon Templar, the title character in the British television series The Saint. He also had roles in some American television shows and films in the late 1950s and early 1960s, including replacing James Garner and portraying Beau Maverick in the Maverick series. Moore was appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 1991 and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2003 for services to charity. In 2007, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contributions to the film industry. In 2008, the government of France made him a Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters. He was the only child of George Alfred Moore, a policeman, and Lillian \”Lily\”. His mother was born in Calcutta, India, to an English family. Moore had some early uncredited appearances in Perfect Strangers, Caesar and Cleopatra, Gaiety George, Piccadilly Incident, and Trottie True. In his book Last Man Standing: Tales from Tinseltown, Moore states that his first television appearance was on 27 March 1949 in The Governess by Patrick Hamilton, a live broadcast, in which he played the minor part of Bob Drew. He had uncredited parts in films including Paper Orchid and The Interrupted Journey.

In March 1954, MGM signed Moore to a long-term contract. He started his MGM contract with a small role in Time I Saw Paris, flirting with Elizabeth Taylor. He appeared in a biographical movie about Marjorie Lawrence’s recovery, The Last Melody. In the same year he played a supporting role in The King’s Thief, starring Cyril Ford and Eleanor Parker. In 1956, he played Prince Henri, the future king of France, in a film set in France with the future King Henri, Edmund Purdom, David Niven and George Sanders. In 1957, he was billed third again, this time under Lana Turner and Pedro Armendariz, in the film The 16th Century, a 16th-century period piece set in 16th century France. He played the supporting role of Cyril Lawrence’s brother Cyril in the movie The King’s Thief starring Ann Annly Annly Blythly. In 1959, Moore was released from his contract with MGM after two years following a critical failure, following the film’s commercial failure. He then appeared in the films One Wild Oat and Honeymoon Deferred. In 1961, he starred in The Persuaders! television series from 1971 to 1972, and had role in several theatrical films in 1970s and 1980s. Moore travelled to the United States and began to work in television, including in adaptations of Julius Caesar and Black Chiffon, and in two episodes of Robert Montgomery Presents, as well as the TV movie The Clay of Kings.
