Rod Serling

Rodman Edward Serling was an American screenwriter, playwright, television producer, and narrator. He is best known for his live television dramas of the 1950s and his anthology television series, The Twilight Zone. He was known as the ‘angry young man’ of Hollywood, clashing with television executives and sponsors over a range of issues including censorship, racism, and war.

Summary Rod SerlingRodman Edward Serling was an American screenwriter, playwright, television producer, and narrator. He is best known for his live television dramas of the 1950s and his anthology television series, The Twilight Zone. He was known as the ‘angry young man’ of Hollywood, clashing with television executives and sponsors over a wide range of issues including censorship, racism, and war. Serling enlisted in the U.S. Army the morning after high school graduation, following his brother Robert. He served in the 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 11th Airborne Division. In May 1941, he was assigned to the Pacific Theater in New Guinea and the Philippines. In November 1944, he saw his first combat landing, in the Philippines, where he saw that he would be fighting against the Japanese rather than the Germans. He died in Los Angeles, California, on December 25, 1961. He had a son, Robert, who is a novelist and aviation writer. He also had an older brother, novelist and aircraft writer Robert J. Serling. He has a daughter, Susan, who was a television producer and writer. She is the author of several books, including “The Secret Life of Rod Serling” and “The Twilight Zone: A Biography of a Screenwriter, A Play, A Narrator, A Movie, and a Play-Maker” (forthcoming). She is also the mother of actor Robert Serling, who starred in the TV series “The X-Files” (1998) and “Star Trek: The Animated Series” (2001) He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and two children, Robert and Robert Jr.

“Bob” Serling and Robert “Rob” “Robbie” “The Next Generation” (2013) Serling died in a car accident in California. He will be buried in a private funeral in California on December 26, 2013. He leaves behind a wife and two sons, Robert “Robert” and Robert, Jr., who is also a writer and a TV producer. His son Robert, Robert Jr., and his daughter Susan “Bobbie” are the co-authors of the book “The New York Times Bestseller, The New York Review of Books” (2014) The book also includes a foreword by Robert Frost, who wrote the foreword for “The Great Gatsby” (1962) and the first edition of “The Lord of the Rings” (1964) The first two volumes of the “New York Review” were published by Simon & Schuster, with the second published by Random House, with a third to be published in 2015. The last two volumes will be published by Penguin Books, with an introduction by Simon and Schuster. The third, “The Godfather,” will be released in 2016. The first volume of the Twilight Zone is scheduled to be released by The Walt Disney Co. and will be called “The First Twilight Zone” (1967)
