Robert Covington

Robert Covington is an American professional basketball player for the Portland Trail Blazers of the National Basketball Association. He played college basketball for the Tennessee State Tigers. After going undrafted in the 2013 NBA draft, he joined the Houston Rockets for the 2013 Summer League. He spent the majority of the 2013–14 season in the NBA Development League with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

He played college basketball for the Tennessee State Tigers. After going undrafted in the 2013 NBA draft, he joined the Houston Rockets for the 2013 Summer League. He spent the majority of the 2013–14 season in the NBA Development League with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, appearing in just seven NBA games. In April, he was named the NBA D-League Rookie of the Year. In November 2014, he signed a four-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. On December 3, he scored a career-best 17 points in an 85–77 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. He set a new career high of 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting against the Oklahoma City Thunder later that night. He was selected 1st, 1st overall by the Grand Rapids Drive in the 2014 D- league preseason draft, however he never played for the team.

He has also been selected by the New York Knicks and the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2011 and 2012 NBA Summer Leagues. He is also a member of the New Jersey Nets and the Brooklyn Nets’ G-League affiliate, the N.Y. Nets. He attended Proviso West High School in Hillside, Illinois, where he averaged 18 points, 11 rebounds and 7 blocks per game as a senior in 2008–09. His high school career ended with 1,358 points and 693 rebounds, ranking for 16th and 13th in school history respectively. He graduated from Tennessee State with a degree in business administration. He also played in the U.S. Army National Guard and the United States Air Force. He currently lives in Portland, Oregon with his wife and two children. He plays for the Oregon Trail Blazers and the Portland Pilots of the NBA G League. His father is former NBA player and former NBA star Rick Covingon.
