Ray Perkins

Walter Ray Perkins was an American football coach and player. He played as a wide receiver for the University of Alabama and Baltimore Colts. Perkins coached in the NFL as an assistant for the New England Patriots and San Diego Chargers. He was the head coach of the New York Giants from 1979 to 1982.

Perkins died at his Mississippi home on December 9, 2020, at 79 years old.

He had a heart condition and died of a heart attack at his Hattiesburg, Mississippi, home. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, a son and a daughter-in-law, and a son-and-daughter-in law. He leaves behind a wife and two daughters. He coached at Alabama from 1983 to 1986, compiling a record of 32–15–1 and winning three bowl games. Perkins also worked as the offensive coordinator for the Oakland Raiders from 1997 to 2000.
