About Rajasthan Royals in brief

Summary Rajasthan RoyalsThe Rajasthan Royals are a cricket team that plays in the Indian Premier League. Founded in 2008, the team is based at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The team won the inaugural edition of the IPL under the captaincy of Shane Warne, despite being written off as a title contender by the media and fans. The Royals were banned for two years by the BCCI in 2015 over a 2013 betting scandal. They returned to the competition for the 2018 season. The franchise is currently owned and chaired by Manoj Badale. In 2009, the Emerging Media Group acquired the franchise for USD 67 million. There have been past controversies regarding the ownership of the franchise, leading to their expulsion from the league in 2010. In 2013, the Royals were the runners-up of the 2013 Champions League Twenty20 under Rahul Dravid’s captaincy. The record run-scorer is Ajinkya Rahane with 2705 runs, while the leading wicket-taker is Shane Watson, with 67. In the inaugural season, many considered the Royals as possibly the weakest team in the tournament, giving them little chance of competing well. In their first game ever at Sawai mansingh stadium, they won against the Kings XI Punjab and won by six wickets. That was what was confirmed when the team lost its first match against the Delhi Daredevils in a 9 wicket loss. The first match of the tournament was played by Shane Watson who was declared the man of the match for his unbeaten 76 off 49 balls.

The match was the first time the Royals had ever played at their home ground, Sawai Mansingh Stadium. The next day, they lost their first match ever at sawai mansing stadium by 6 wickets against the Chennai Super Kings and won the match by six runs. The game was played in front of a crowd of 6,000 people at the Sawai  Mansing Stadion. The final match was played at the same venue, with the Royals winning by eight wickets and winning by nine runs. It was the team’s first home game ever in the first IPL season. It made a pre-tax profit of USD 7.5 million in 2009, making it the least expensive franchise in the league at the beginning of the competition. In 2010, the  BCCI decided to expel Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals from the IPL. The expulsion baffled captain Shane Warne who stated that he suspected that there might be some foul play and that the BCC might possess some ulterior motives. The two parties went to the Mumbai High Court to decide. The case was adjourned until 29 October 2010, but it was revised to 15 November because they didn’t want it to coincide with Diwali celebrations from 1 to 14 November. After this, the Bombay High Court rejected the appeals of the BCCi against keeping the Rajastha Royals in the IPl for six weeks while the case was sorted out.
