Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior (born 5 February 1992), known as Neymar, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays for Paris Saint-Germain and the Brazil national team. He was twice named the South American Footballer of the Year, in 2011 and 2012, and soon relocated to Europe to join Barcelona. In 2017, Neymar transferred to PSG in a move worth €222 million, making him the most expensive player ever. He captained Brazil to their first Olympic gold medal in men’s football at the 2016 Summer Olympics. With 64 goals in 103 matches for Brazil since debuting at age 18, he is the second highest goalscorer for his national team, trailing only Pelé.

In 2003, he began playing for youth side Portuguesa Santista, before moving to Santos FC. At 17, he signed his first professional contract, and began signing his first deals at an early age and he was soon spotted by Santos FC, who offered him a contract in 2003. While in the youth academy, he met Henrique Ganso, becoming friends with the likes of Coutinho, Clodoaldo, Diego, Elano and Robinho. He also joined Real Madrid to try out, becoming good friends in the process. At 14, he travelled to Spain to play with the youth club Aged 14, before starting out with Real Madrid’s youth academy. In 2009, he moved to Barcelona to join the club’s academy, which has produced Brazilian internationals like Coutinho and Elano. In 2011, he won the La Liga treble of La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the UEFA Champions League, and finished third for the FIFA Ballon d’Or in 2015 for his performances. He then attained a domestic double in the 2015–16 season, which included a domestic treble and two Coupe de la Ligue, and was voted Ligue 1 Player of the year in his debut season. His participation in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2015 Copa América was cut short by injury and a suspension, respectively, before captaining Brazil to the 2014 World Cup. Two years later, having renounced the captaincy, he featured at the 2018 FIFA World Cups.
