They have won the top-flight football league a record five times – the National Football League three times, and the I-League twice. They are the most successful team of India in the history of the Federation Cup, having won the championship a record 14 times.

They have won the top-flight football league a record five times – the National Football League three times, and the I-League twice. They are the most successful team of India in the history of the Federation Cup, having won the championship a record 14 times. The club has also won several other trophies, including the Durand Cup, IFA Shield, and the Calcutta Football League. In total the club has won 253 trophies. The football operations of the club are now known as ATK Mohun bagan FC since 2020. The first derby match was played on 8 August 1921. The team won its first trophy in 1904, when they won the Coochbehar Cup. The Green & Maroons became the first club ever to clinch the double crown of KolkATA in 1954. In 1977, they became first Indian football club to win the triple crown in the same year. In 1981, they won their first standalone Federation Cup title after beating Mohammedan SC 2–0. The match, which took place at Eden Gardens, had a match attendance of 80,000 and ended in a 2–2 draw. In the 1978 I FA Shield Final, both the clubs ended up up against FC Ararat Yerevan of the Soviet Union and were declared winners 2-2 and 2-1. In 2009, MohUn Bagan were the first Indian team, competing against a non-Asian side, to win post-independence post-Asian final, while competing against the non- Asian side in the IFA Federation Cup final, 2-0.

In 2011, the team won the I FA Federation Cup after beating the Indian side in a penalty shoot-out 2–1. The win was considered a landmark victory in the Indian freedom struggle. In 2012, Mohun Bagen were inducted into the Club of Pioneers, a network of the largest existing football clubs around the world, as the club celebrated its 130th year in existence. In 2013, the company owning ATK FC, merged with Mohun. Bagan Football Club Private Limited, the legal entity overseeing the affairs of the football section, by buying 80% stakes of the latter. In 2014, the two companies merged to form the new company, Kolkatta Games and Sports Private Limited (Kolkata Games & Sports), which is responsible for the football operations. In 2015, the new owners bought out the remaining 80% stake of the previous owners of the Football section of the Club, which is known as Kolkatas Football Club (KFC). The club was founded in 1889 by three famous aristocratic Bengali families of North Kolk Tata. In 1905, Moh Un Bagan reached the finals of the Gladstone Cup which was held in Chinsurah where they defeated the reigning IFA shield champions Dalhousie 6–1 in the finals. In 1911, Moh un Bagan created history by becoming the first Indians to win IFA Shields.
