Michael Philip Batt is an English singer-songwriter, musician, arranger, record producer, director, conductor and former Deputy Chairman of the British Phonographic Industry. He is particularly known in the UK for creating The Wombles pop act, writing many hits including the chart-topping \”Bright Eyes\”, and discovering Katie Melua. He has also conducted many of the world’s great orchestras, including the London Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, London Philharmonia, Sydney Symphony and Stuttgart Philharmonics.

He is particularly known in the UK for creating The Wombles pop act, writing many hits including the chart-topping \”Bright Eyes\”, and discovering Katie Melua. He has also conducted many of the world’s great orchestras, including the London Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, London Philharmonia, Sydney Symphony and Stuttgart Philharmonics. He wrote the score for the film Caravans released in 1978. A version of Tarot Suite was used as the theme for the Sydney, Australia radio station, Triple M, from its first broadcast in 1980 until well into the 1990s. In 1981, he was commissioned to write a piece for the 50th anniversary of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation which became the musical fantasy Zero Zero. In the same year, he went off with his family aboard his boat, Braemar, ending up in Australia after two and a half years travelling via France, the West Indies, South America, Hawaii and Fiji. He now lives in Australia with his wife and two children, and has a son and daughter. He also has a daughter and a son-in-law, both of whom he has worked with over the years, and a daughter who he has also worked with on a number of projects. He currently lives in Sydney and works as a freelance music producer and arranger.

He was awarded an OBE for his services to the music industry in 2007. He lives with his daughter in Sydney, and his son in Los Angeles, where he has lived for the past 20 years. He and his wife have three children, two sons and two step-daughters. They have a son, a daughter, a grandson and a step-grandson. He had a son in 2010, who was born on February 6, 2013, in Southampton, England, and is now a father-of-two. He works as an arranger and conductor for the London Philharmonic and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. His wife is a former member of the Steeleye Span band, and he has been married to her since 2007. In 2010, he released his next solo album entitled This Waves, recorded at Hilordord Studios in Hilseloversum, Holland, recorded at the end of June 2010. In 2011, he wrote the theme music for the Australian TV series, The X Factor, which aired on Channel 4 and Channel 4 Australia. In 2012, he co-directed, co-wrote and starred in the production of Zero Zero, a musical fantasy about the Battle of the Bulge, shot at Gore Hill Studios in New York. In 2013, he appeared in the film, which was based on the book, The Secret of the Sea, about the life of the late Sir Alex Jones, and also starred in a series of TV shows, including The X-Files and The Hobbit.
