Michael Louis David Fabricant is a British Conservative Party politician. He has been a Member of Parliament since 1992. Fabricant was the vice-chairman of the Conservative Party for parliamentary campaigning. He was dismissed from this position in April 2014 over comments he had made about his colleague Maria Miller’s recent resignation.

He has been a Member of Parliament since 1992: for Mid Staffordshire until 1997, and since then for Lichfield in Staffordshire. Fabricant was the vice-chairman of the Conservative Party for parliamentary campaigning, responsible for Conservative headquarters strategy on marginal seats at the 2015 general election. He was dismissed from this position in April 2014 over comments he had made about his colleague Maria Miller’s recent resignation. In the 2016 EU Referendum campaign Fabricant said he would be voting to leave the EU. In November 2012, Fabricant published a pamphlet entitled ‘The Pact’ which called for a political pact between UKIP and the Conservative party, in exchange for an InOut EU referendum. In June 2014, he tweeted that he could never appear on Channel 4 News with Alibhai Liddle as he would end up on a programme with her either as he opposes HS2 or as a rebel. He caused controversy when he tweeted about bestiality and was criticised for joking about his sexuality when asked about George llamas when he was asked about his relationship with the New Statesman’s George Eaton.

He also tweeted about the possibility of a ‘gay marriage’ in the future. He is a staunch believer in free trade and has called for heavy goods freight to move off Britain’s roads and back onto the restored canal network. He opposes the HS2 rail development on the grounds of its financial and environmental cost. In 2008, he founded Conservative Friends of America, which he has remained a member of ever since. He currently sits on the Administration Committee and has previously sat on the Committee of Selection, the Finance and Services Committee, the Liaison Committee, the Culture, Media and Sport Committee and the National Heritage Committee. He previously served on the European Legislation Select committee in 1992 on which he served until the 1997 election.
