About Made in the Dark in brief

Summary Made in the DarkMade in the Dark is the third studio album by English indietronica band Hot Chip. Comprising of 13 tracks, a defining feature of the album is the strong presence of romantic ballads. Commercially, the album peaked at number four on the UK Album Chart, number 25 on the Australian album charts, and entered at number 109 on the U.S. Billboard 200. Several singles have been released from the album, including \”Shake a Fist\”, \”Ready for the Floor\”, and \”One Pure Thought. In March 2008, Hot Chip re-recorded several songs from Made In The Dark, with Robert Wyatt on violin and Emma Smith on saxophone. The album was released on 4 February 2008 through EMI internationally and Astralwerks and DFA Records in the United States. It is Hot Chip’s first album to feature a female lead singer, with Alexis Taylor writing the lyrics for the song ‘Ready for The Floor’ The band has not released a follow-up album since the release of The Warning in 2007. The band have not released any more albums since the success of Made in The Dark in 2008. They have released two more singles since then, including ‘Hold On’ and ‘Shake A Fist’ in 2011 and ‘One Pure thought’ in 2012. The group has not recorded any more songs since the album ‘The Warning’ in 2007, with the exception of ‘Hold on’ which was written for Kylie Minogue, who they never got round to writing for. In October 2007, it was reported that Hot Chip was planning to give the album to Minogue.

However, the band said that they had never been asked to write for her but that they’d never got the round to do it. The second single, ‘Ready For the Floor’, was written specifically for Minogue and was recorded by Alexis Taylor. The song was later released as a single, and reached number six in the UK Singles Chart. It was the first time that the band had recorded music in a studio environment, and it was also the first occasion that they recorded music on multitrack instead of in a bedroom. Hot Chip have never been too good at bothering to get rid of little imperfections in the music; they felt they added personality and said that it’s good not to be too dogmatic about it if that’s what suits the song. Some critics felt that the album lacked focus, containing too many varied elements; it was described as \”loveable but flawed\”. The band took a different approach in recording Made In the Dark to make it sound \”not quite so homemade\”. They used a variety of vocal structures, including layered vocals, where two takes of the same vocals were added together, changed by idiosyncrasies from the way it had been sung, and the doubling of a single performance, shifted out of beat. Some equipment used to create the album remained the same as previous albums—Goddard used Steinberg Cubase SX3 on his laptop and Doyle and Martin worked on songs using Apple Logic.
