Lucien Favre is a Swiss professional football manager and former player. He most recently managed German club Borussia Dortmund. As a player, he played for Lausanne-Sports, Neuchâtel Xamax, Toulouse and Servette. He amassed 24 caps for the Switzerland national team.

Summary Lucien FavreLucien Favre (born 2 November 1957) is a Swiss professional football manager and former player. He most recently managed German club Borussia Dortmund. Favre played for Lausanne-Sports, Neuchâtel Xamax, Toulouse and Servette. As a manager, he won the Swiss Cup and the Swiss championship with Servette and Zürich. In Germany, Favre also managed Hertha BSC and Borussia Mönchengladbach. He amassed 24 caps for the Switzerland national team, scoring his first and only goal on his debut against the Netherlands on 1 September 1981 in the same game, in which both Ruud Gullit and Frank Rijkaard also made their first appearance for their respective country. He was relieved of his duties by the club at the end of September 2009. He took over when the team was sitting at the bottom of the Bundesliga with only 16 points after 22 days, adrift of Bundesliga safety.

In the following season, the team surpassed all expectations by finishing in fourth place, thereby qualifying for the Bundesliga play-off for the first time in their history. In February 2011, he was named as the successor to Michael Frontzeck as head coach of Borussia MöncheNGladbach and took over the team for the 2011–12 season. He has also been in charge of French club Lille since 2012. He is married to the former Swiss international footballer and mother of two, Anne-Marie Favre. The couple have a son and a daughter, both of whom play for Swiss club Servette in the Swiss Super League. He also has a son who plays for French side Lille in the Ligue 1. He retired from professional football in 1991 after eight years as a player.
