Kelendria Trene \”Kelly\” Rowland is an American singer, songwriter, actress and television personality. She rose to fame in the late 1990s as a member of Destiny’s Child, one of the world’s best-selling girl groups of all time. When Rowland was 6, her mother left her father, who was an abusive alcoholic and suffered PTSD from serving in the Vietnam War, and Rowland went with her. In 1990, Rowland joined Beyoncé Knowles, LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson in the girl group Girl’s Tyme. The group went through several name changes, including the Dolls, Something Fresh, Cliché, and Destiny before deciding upon a final moniker.

Under the name Destiny’s Child, the group was picked up by Columbia Records. They released their major label debut song, no, No, No in 1997. The album established the group as a viable act in the music industry, winning three Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards and winning three Grammy Awards. Their second album, The Writing’s on the Wall, featured some of their most widely known songs, such as \”Bills, Bills, My Name is My Name, and Jumpin’ Jumpin’’. She currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband Tim Weather Spoon and has a son, who she adopted in 2012.
