Booboo Stewart, Cheyenne Jackson, Carlos Ponce, and Sonny Bustamante were cast as recurring roles. An official trailer was released on August 26, 2020, and the series was released in September. A soundtrack was released alongside its series debut on the streaming service. It’s 1995, the band Sunset Curve is performing at a soundcheck before performing later at the Orpheum in Los Angeles. Three of the bandmates, Luke, Alex, and Reggie eat the \”street dogs\”, these hot dogs turned to be rancid and they died due to food poisoning. 25 years later, a teenager named Julie Molina is unable to play music since her mother’s passing a year prior, which results in her dismissal from her school’s music program. After Julie plays the piano and sings for the first time in a year, the ghosts are shocked at her talent and consider asking her to join the band. When the song ends the band vanishes leaving everyone to think the boys were holograms.

On April 9, 2019, Kenny Ortega signed a multi-year overall deal with Netflix, including production of Julie and the Phantomoms. OrteGA executive produced the series alongside Dan Cross, David Hoge, George Salinas, and Jaime Aymerich. Cross and Hoge also serve as showrunners. On July 21,2020, upon series premiere date announcement, Madison Reyes and Charlie Gillespie were announced as the stars of the series. Principal photography for the series began on September 17, 2019 and ended on December 14, 2019 in Burnaby, British Columbia. The boys teleport to the beach where more is learned about the backgrounds of their families. After school, Julie lets her dad know that she got into the music program because, with the band and their second chance, they can be the band they never got to be. At the schools’ Spirit Rally, Julie and Flynn’s rival, Carrie, performs \”Wow\” with her group \”Dirty Candy. As the rally ends, with encouragement from the guys, Julie gets on stage and begins to perform the song, \”Bright\”, a song Luke wrote. When Julie sings, the group suddenly appears on stage playing their instruments and the band realizes they can’t be seen.
