Jacob Paul Tapper is an American journalist, author, and cartoonist. He is the Chief Washington Correspondent for CNN. His book The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor debuted at number 10 in November 2012 on The New York Times Bestseller list for hardback non-fiction. Tapper moderated the Republican presidential debate in Miami on March 10, 2016.

The Republican primary debate Tapper moderated in September 2015 drew more than 23 million viewers, making it the most-watched program in the history of CNN. He also moderated the Republican presidential debate in Miami on March 10, 2016, which drew almost 12 million viewers and, according to Variety, \”garnered acclaim for its substance\”. Tapper was born in New York City and was raised in Queen Village, Philadelphia. His father, from Chicago, graduated from Dartmouth College and Harvard Medical School, and went on to serve as the president of South Philadelphia Pediatrics and associate clinical professor of pediatrics at Jefferson Medical College. His mother, who is originally from Canada, retired as a psychiatric nurse at the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Tapper’s reports about Enron were nominated for a 2002 Columbia University School of Journalism online award, and he was an early questioner of the Bush administration’s claims about Iraq having weapons of mass destruction. He was also a columnist for TALK Magazine, and has written for The New Yorker, The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Weekly Standard, The Los Angeles Times, and other publications.

In 2001, Tappers was the host of the CNN news talk show, Take Five. In November 2008, he was named Senior White Houses Correspondent on ABC News. In March 2010, he became This Week’s anchor on Christian Amane. In July 2010, Tapper became interim anchor of ABC’s This Week on Christiane Amane, hosting the program until December 5, 2010. In January 2011, he took over the anchor duties on This Week from Christian Amanpour. In February 2012, he replaced Amane as the anchor of Christiane on This week on CNN. In December 2012, he became the anchor on CNN’s All Things Considered on CNN Radio. In April 2013, he began hosting the CNN News Radio program All Things Political on CNN, which airs weeknights from 8-11 p.m. ET. He has also been a contributor to National Public Radio’s The Best American Political Considered since 2002.
