Summary Hell Is Other Robots“Hell Is Other Robots” is the ninth episode of the first season of Futurama. It originally aired on the Fox network in the United States on May 18, 1999. He joins the Temple of Robotology, a spoof on the Church of Scientology. After Fry and Leela tempt Bender with alcohol and prostitutes, he quits the Temple and is sent to Robot Hell. The episode received positive reviews. It is one of four featured on the DVD boxed set of Matt Groening’s favorite episodes: \”Monster Robot Maniac Fun Collection\”. Over the closing credits, a remix of the show’s theme song plays instead of the original version. The episode was written by Eric Kaplan and directed by Rich Moore. In a DVD commentary, David X. Cohen noted that the writing team had begun to loosen up during this episode, which gave it a similar feel to the series’ later episodes. One person at the studio refused to work on this episode because they did not agree with the portrayal of the religious content of some of the characters.

One example of something a robot character could not get away with had been a human character which it could not do with in the episode because it was a perfect example of what a robot could do with a human. The show’s writers felt comfortable enough with each other to begin to take them in new and strange directions, which they did in this episode. It was the first episode to focus heavily on Bender, and the episode is one the first to focus on Bender’s addiction to electric power. It also lampoons drug addiction and religious conversion. It was one of the earliest episodes to feature Bender as a main character in the series, and was the last to feature Fry as the main character.
