Halloween 5 was theatrically released on October 13, 1989, and grossed USD 11. 6 million at the domestic box office on a budget of USD 6 million, making it the poorest-performing film in the series to date. It received negative reviews from critics upon release, and was followed by Halloween:  The Curse of Michael Myers and Halloween 4: The Return of the Killer Michael Myers. It was released on Blu-ray, DVD, and Blu-Ray on October 25, 2009. The DVD version of the film has a different ending, with Michael Myers being captured by the National Guard and being taken to a prison where he’ll serve a life sentence until he dies and never threatens anyone again. The Blu- ray and DVD versions of the movie have different endings, with Jamie being taken home and Michael being captured and killed by the N.G. Guards and a mysterious man in black showing up and launching a surprise attack on the police station with an explosion on the side of the building.
