About Gremlins in brief

Summary GremlinsGremlins is a 1984 American comedy horror film written by Chris Columbus and directed by Joe Dante. The film stars Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates, with Howie Mandel providing the voice of Gizmo, the main mogwai character. Steven Spielberg was the film’s executive producer, with the film being produced by Michael Finnell and released by Warner Bros. It was followed by a sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, in 1990. Despite being a critical and commercial success, the film was heavily criticized for some of its more violent sequences. In response to this and to similar complaints about Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Spielberg suggested that the Motion Picture Association of America alter its rating system, which it did within two months of the film’s release, creating a new PG-13 rating. It draws on legends of mischievous creatures that caused malfunctions in the British Royal Air Force going back to World War II. The story follows a young man who receives a strange creature called a Mogwai as a pet, which then spawns other creatures who transform into small, destructive, evil monsters that all wreck havoc on a whole town on Christmas Eve. Many people are injured or outright killed by the gremlins’ rampage, including Mrs. Deagle, who is launched out of her house on a stair lift that has been sabotaged by the creatures. In the aftermath of the rampage, Mr Wing chases Stripe into the store where he attempts to use a water fountain to use to collect sunlight and melt him to his death to collect more gremlin toys to collect.

The movie was a box office success and was the center of large merchandising campaigns for both the film and the sequel, both of which were released at the same time in the U.S. and abroad. It has since become one of the most popular Christmas films of all time. It is also the most successful Christmas film of all-time, with a total box office gross of $1.2 billion. It also has a cult following of 2 million fans on YouTube. The sequel was released in the United States on December 25, 2009. It had a disappointing box office performance, with only $1 million in ticket sales and a disappointing $2.1 million on home video. The second sequel, released in 2010, had a more satirical tone, balanced against a Christmas time setting. It received a disappointing Box Office gross of just $2 million, with just $3 million on U.K. release. The third and fourth sequels were released in 2011 and 2012 respectively, and both had a much more successful box office run, with $4 million and $5 million respectively. The fourth and fifth sequels were both released in 2012 and 2013, respectively, with £1 million and £2 million on US release and £3.5 million on UK release and $3.2 million in UK release. It’s the first of two sequels to be released this year, and the fourth in 2014.
