Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is the civic body that oversees Hyderabad, the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Telangana. It is one of the largest municipal corporations in India with a population of 6. 9 million and an area of 625 km². It was formed on 16 April 2007 by merging 12 municipalities and 8gram panchayats with the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad.

It was formed on 16 April 2007 by merging 12 municipalities and 8 gram panchayats with the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad. The Government Order 261 was initially issued in July 2005. The Supreme Court has rejected the plea to interfere into the matter, the Andhra Pradesh government has passed the GO 261 that is related to the creation of GreaterHyderabad on16 April 2007. The GHMC is headed by a Special Commissioner to IAS. Each zone will have a zonal commissioner, additional commissioner, deputy municipal commissioners, and an additional chief engineer.

There are eight civilian wards in Secunderabad cantonment, with a civilian population of four lakhs. There will be a separate engineering wing with an Chief Engineer in each head office at the head office and a Chief City Planner for each city planner for each zone. There is also a town planning wing with a chief city planner at theHead office and an Additional Commissioner for each town planner at the Head office. The city of Hyderburg was divided into four and the suburbs of Chaderghat were divided into five divisions. In the year 1869, Municipal administration was first introduced for the city. The whole management of both the city and suburbs was handled by the then City Police Commissioner, Kotwal-e-Baldia.
