The final episode of the series was watched by around 52. 5 million American viewers, making it the fifth most-watched series finale in television history. The cast members were given the salary of the least paid actor in the first season, and were paid 75,000 USD per episode in the second season. The original executive producers were Kevin S. Bright, Kauffman, and Crane. James Michael Tyler appears as Gunther, a barista at Central Perk, in every season of the show, but is only ever credited as a guest star. At one point, Gunther is only the manager of the coffee house, but at one point it is revealed that Gunther speaks Dutch, as well as English, as a former soap opera actor.

He becomes the secret love for Rachel, the series’ only main character, in the series finale. In the final season, the cast members decided to enter collective negotiations, despite Warner Bros.’ preference for individual deals for individual actors. In their original contracts for their original season, actors were paid USD 22,500 per episode, and USD 20,000 per episode from the beginning of the third season, until the end of the fourth season, when they were paid at least USD 75,00 per episode. The first season of Friends was produced by BrightKauffmanCrane Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television. In 1997, the episode “The One with the Prom Video’ was ranked No. 100 on Television Guide’s 100 Greatest Episodes of All-Time, and was no. 7 on Empire magazine’s The 50 Greatest TV Shows of All time. The episode was also no. 21 on TVGuide’s 50 Greatest Television Shows of all Time. It was the last episode of Friends to be shown on television before it was canceled in 2004. The last episode was aired on May 5, 2004; it was the final episode to air on NBC, and it was viewed by around 50,000 American viewers. The finale was the most- watched television episode of 2000s, and the fourth most watched TV episode of that year.
