In July 2017, Montana released his second studio album, Jungle Rules, which peaked at number three on the Billboard 200. The single \”Unforgettable\”, featuring Swae Lee, became Montana’s first song as lead artist to reach the top 10 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. He was shot in the head in 2003 by two armed gunmen as he was leaving a recording studio in the Bronx. The incident resulted in one of the gunmen dead, in what is believed to be a case of \”friendly fire\” by one assailant against the other. French was then hospitalized for several weeks. He discovered that he was set up by someone close to him and his circle. In 2012, he was signed to a joint-venture record deal with Puff Daddy’s Bad Boy Records and Rick Ross’s Maybach Music Group. In 2013, he released his debut studio album Excuse My French, which included collaborations with Uncle Murda, Jae Millz, Mazaradi Fox and Tony Yayo. The track \”Quarter to Eight\” was the first of many collaborations with Rick Ross. In 2008, French Montana and Max Bavav released the first collaboration mixtape, Live From Africa.

In 2009, French was included in Freshman’s Freshman Class of XXL’s Class of 2012. French released his mixtape The Laundry Man on February 23, 2009, while Max Bvav released Quarantine Man on March 24, 2009. In 2010, French released the collaborative mixtape Coke Wave 2. In 2011, French and Max released the mixtape French Revolution Vol. 1. The first collaboration with rapper Max Bovav was released on February 6, 2009,. A few weeks later, French. released his first solo album, The French Montana, which was released in November 2011. French has released two more solo albums since then. He has also released two collaborative mixtapes with other artists, including the single ‘Choppa Choppa Down’ in 2010 and ‘Coke Wave Vol. 2 in November 2013. French is managed by SAL&CO and is a member of the management team of Def Jam Recordings, which released its first single, ‘Loyalty’, in 2012. He also has a music video series called ‘The French Montana’ with his friend and fellow rapper Lil’ Kim, which is set to be released later this year. French’s music video for ‘Shake It Off’ is scheduled for release in June 2014. He released a single called “Cocaine City” in May 2013, which became his first top 10 hit.
