About Demetrius III Eucaerus in brief

Summary Demetrius III EucaerusDemetrius III Theos Philopator Soter Philometor Euergetes Callinicus was a Hellenistic Seleucid monarch who reigned as the King of Syria between 96 and 87 BC. He was a son of Antiochus VIII and, most likely, his Egyptian wife Tryphaena. His early life was spent in a period of civil war between his father and his uncle Antiochus IX. After the death of their father, DemetriusIII took control of Damascus. He attempted to appease the public by promoting the importance of the local Semitic gods, and he may have given Damascus the dynastic name Demetrias. The earliest coins were produced in Damascus in 216 BC; only one obverseverse die is known from SE, indicating that Demetrious’s reign started late. The only works of ancient literature dealing with ancient literature are those of Josephus and the Pesherum, a sectarian commentary on the actual course of the Book of Damascene. The book is a condensed and condensed version of the Nahum Nahum’s account of that year, which is called Damascenus Damascensus. It is published by The Perseus Press, a division of the University of London, and is available on Kindle for £3.99.
