Chris Samuels was born in Mobile, Alabama. He played college football for the University of Alabama. Selected third overall in the 2000 NFL Draft, he played his entire pro career for the NFL’s Washington Redskins. He is the first Alabama offensive lineman to be selected in the first round of an NFL Draft since Bob Cryder in 1978.

He was a six-time Pro Bowl selection and was considered one of the best offensive tackles in the NFL. He is the first Alabama offensive lineman to be selected in the first round of an NFL Draft since Bob Cryder in 1978. He has been named to the Pro Bowl six times, including three times in the last four seasons. He also won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy as the SEC’s most outstanding blocker. He started 42 straight games, from early in his 1996 freshman season until his last regular-season game as a senior, without yielding a sack. In 2005, he helped running back Clinton Portis rush for 1,315 yards, becoming only the fourth Redskin in history to do so in a single season. He helped Ladell Betts rush for a career-best 1,154 rushing yards for a franchise-record 1,516 yards and four touchdowns.

In 2007, he started all 16-season games at left tackle and paved one postseason contest for the third consecutive season and was named to Pro Bowl for the second consecutive season. In 2008, he won the Ed Block Courage Award for his performance in the Redskins’ win over the New York Giants in the Super Bowl XLII XLII game. In 2009, he earned game balls, along with the rest of the offensive line, for two games: vs. Seattle and at New Orleans. He won co-Offensive Rookie of the Month for October with Dolphins tackle Todd Wade. He missed the last three quarters in the season finale vs. Arizona with a neck injury. In 2010, he was named the Probowl’s Most Valuable Player after helping the Redskins to a win against the New England Patriots in the NFC Championship Game.
