Aylesbury duck

The precise origins of the breed are unclear, but raising white ducks became popular inAylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England, in the 18th century owing to the demand for white feathers as a filler for quilts. Duck rearing became a major industry in the 19th century. In 1873 the Pekin duck was introduced to the United Kingdom. By the 1950s only one significant flock of Aylsbury ducks remained in Buckinghamshire and by 1966 there were no duck-breeding or -rearing businesses of any size remaining in the town. The breed is critically endangered in the United States, and appears on the coat of arms of Aylesburys United and on the club badge of the town’s football club. Unlike the Rouen duck, the other popular meat variety in England in the early 19th century, Aylesburg ducks lay eggs from early November to early November. An egg is incubated for eight weeks after hatching, and the first moulkes and drakes are almost indistinguishable. Unlike Rouen ducks, males have two or three curved tail feathers and a fainter quainter, huskier, husker, husky, husack, huskin, husking, and tail.
