He was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Diane, a Procter & Gamble employee, and Larry M. Kutcher, a factory worker. He has an older sister named Tausha and a fraternal twin brother named Michael, who had a heart transplant when the brothers were young children. He also has a cerebral palsy and is a spokesperson for the advocacy organization Reaching for the Stars. His parents divorced when he was 16, and he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting. In 2003, he created and produced the television series Punk’d, also serving as host for the first eight of its ten seasons. In 2004, he starred in the lead role of the psychological film The Butterfly Effect. He subsequently appeared in more romantic comedies, including Guess Who, A Lot Like Love, What Happens in Vegas, and No Strings Attached. He won a trip to New York City’s International Modeling Convention and appeared in Calvin Klein commercials for Calvin Klein and Calvin Klein, and modelled in Paris and Milan. He currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two children. His son is a junior at the University of Iowa, where he studied biochemical engineering.
