The sequel is scheduled for release on April 25, 2021. The first film was released on September 14, 2013. The second was released September 21, 2014, and the third on September 22, 2014. The third and fourth films were released on October 25, 2015, and October 26, 2015. The fourth and fifth films will be released in October 2015 and October 16, 2016, respectively.

The fifth and sixth films are scheduled for October 17, 2016 and October 19, 2016. The sixth and seventh films are released on November 8, 2016  and November 17, 2017. The seventh and eighth films are due out on November 22, 2016 and November 23, 2017, respectively, and November 24, 2008. The final film is released on December 21, 2008, and December 28, 2008  and December 29, 2009. The last film, A Simple Favor, was released on December 31, 2009, and released on January 25, 2010. The screenplay was written by Bryan Woods, Scott Beck and Krasanski, with the rest of the cast being cast in May 2017. It is based on a story that was first written by Woods and Beck in college. The story was inspired by other films, such as Alien, No Country for Old Men, and In the Bedroom. The family communicates in American Sign Language. The Abbott family – wife Evelyn, husband Lee, congenitally deaf daughter Regan, and sons Marcus and Beau – silently scavenge for supplies in a deserted town. Lee attempts to upgrade Regan’s cochlear implant with scavenged miniature amplifiers to restore her hearing, but the devices are ineffective. Regan abandons her mother to visit a memorial to visit her brother’s memorial. Marcus and Regan take refuge atop a grain silo with a broken pipe and fire to alert their father of their whereabouts, but they run out of lighter fluid before they can attract attention.
