He played college football at Michigan, and was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Peppers was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and All-American in 2016.

Peppers was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and All-American in 2016. He was also named a Second-Team All- American by CBS Sports and Sports Illustrated. He is a member of the New Jersey High School Football Hall of Fame. He won the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes in New Jersey’s 2013 Meet of Champions, becoming only the second person ever to do so. He has a personal-best of 10. 51 seconds in the 100 meters. He also holds the N.J. Non-Public Class A outdoor 100- meter dash record with a time of10. 77 seconds. He attended Don Bosco Preparatory High School in Ramsey, New Jersey, where he won consecutive New Jersey state championships in 2010 and 2011. In 2012, he helped Paramus Catholic High School to another state championship over Bergen Catholic in 2012. In his senior year, Peppers led the Paladins to another successful season, defeating St. Peter’s Prep. In 2013, he announced his verbal commitment to the Michigan Wolverines in a live telecast on ESPN.

ESPN ranked him as the second-best recruit in the class of 2014, behind only running back Leonard Fournette. The Rivals. com recruiting network identified Peppers as one of the five-star recruits in the Class of 2014. In 2015, he was named to the Freshman All-America Team by Football Writers Association of America and was a finalist for the Paul Hornung Award. In the 2015 season, he played a combined 986 snaps, with 50 coming on offense, 765 on defense, and 171 on special teams. On September 17, 2016, he became the first Big Ten player to be named the Co-Big Ten Defensive Camp Player of The Week, and Special Teams player of the Week. He returned eight kickoffs for 223 yards, an average of 27.9 yards per return, on a unit that ranked second in the FBS. He became the fifth player on the team to earn an outstanding performance on the season, ranking fifth on the fifth team on punt returns. On November 14, he returned a punt for 72 yards, and returned a kickoff for 79 yards for a touchdown on a game-winning drive against the Colorado Buffaloes. On the same day, he won the Walter Camp FBS Player ofthe Week for his performance against the Buffalos.
