The Battle of Mount Austen, the Galloping Horse, and the Sea Horse took place from 15 December 1942 to 23 January 1943. U.S. soldiers and Marines attacked Imperial Japanese Army forces defending well-fortified and entrenched positions on several hills and ridges. The Battle of Mount Austen, the Galloping Horse, and the Sea Horse took place from 15 December 1942 to 23 January 1943. U.S. soldiers and Marines attacked Imperial Japanese Army forces defending well-fortified and entrenched positions on several hills and ridges. The Japanese were mostly cut off from resupply and suffered greatly from malnourishment and lack of medical care. Allied aircraft operating out of Henderson were called the “Cactus Air Force” after the Allied code name for Guadalcanal. Because of the threat by CAF aircraft based at Henderson Field, the Japanese were unable to use large, slow transport ships to deliver troops and supplies to the island. Most of the troops’ heavy equipment and supplies, such as heavy artillery, vehicles, and ammunition, were carried to Guadal canal by high-speed warship runs. The Allies later renamed the airfield Henderson Field. The landings on the islands were meant to deny their use by the Japanese as bases for threatening the supply routes between the U. S. and Australia, and to secure the islands as starting points for a campaign with the eventual goal of isolating the major Japanese base at Rabaul while also supporting the Allied New Guinea campaign. The Allied landings initiated the six-month-long Guadal Canal campaign. In the meantime, the surviving Japanese troops were successfully evacuated during the first week of February 1943, and most of the surviving troops were evacuated in the following week of that year.

The Battle of the Gifu took place on the west coast of the island on December 31, 1942, when the Japanese decided to abandon GuadalCanal and withdraw to the coast. Army began to arrive on Guadelcanal on 19 August to drive Allied forces from the island and began to drive them from the islands. Next, the 35th Infantry Brigade was defeated in the Battle of Edson. The First, Second, and Third Infantry Regiments were reinforced each time they were defeated each time, but they were each defeated in each time. The Second and Third Battalions of the First Infantry Regiment were augmented on 21 August, and on August 21, the First, Third, Fourth, and Fifth Battalions were reinforced.
