The score was composed by Bernard Herrmann, who also worked on The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, The 3 Worlds of Gulliver and Mysterious Island. It is based on the Greek myth of Jason, the son of King Aristo, who seeks the Golden Fleece to avenge his father, who was killed by Aristo’s daughter.

The Argonauts are led by Hercules, Hylas, and Acastus, but are also joined by Medea, high priestess of Colchis, who falls in love with Jason. Jason is able to kill the beast Aeëtestes, but Medea is mortally wounded by its guardian, the Hydra, and Jason is forced to kill her as well. The movie is considered one of the best-known myths of all time, and is considered to be a classic example of the Greek pantheon. It was released in the U.S. on November 14, 1963. It has been released in UK cinemas on November 11, 2013. It also has been shown in Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, France and Italy. The UK version was released on November 15, 2014.
