27 Club

27 Club

The 27 Club includes popular musicians, artists, actors, and athletes who have died at age 27. Because the club is entirely notional, there is no official membership. Studies have failed to find any unusual pattern of musician deaths at this age, comparing it to equally small increases at ages 25 and 32.

About 27 Club in brief

Summary 27 ClubThe 27 Club includes popular musicians, artists, actors, and athletes who have died at age 27. Names are often put forward for inclusion, but because the club is entirely notional, there is no official membership. Studies have failed to find any unusual pattern of musician deaths at this age, comparing it to equally small increases at ages 25 and 32. A 2011 BMJ study noted instead that young adult musicians have a higher death rate than the rest of the young adult population. The 27 Club comic series created by Luke McGarry features Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse, and Kurt Cobain descending into the club as they die at the age of 27.

The series will debut its first issue in MAD Magazine’s relaunch in their first issue of 2018, on November 14. The comic series will also feature Jean-Michel Basquiat, Robert Johnson, Jean-Paul Gaultier, and Jean-Claude Van Damme, as well as other artists and musicians who died at that age. The first member of the 27 Club was blues musician Robert Johnson in 1938.
