Leicester won the match 3–2 on aggregate, and progressed to the final with a 5–4 aggregate victory. Leicester finished the season in fifth position while SwindON finished sixth. The winners of these semi-finals competed for the last place for the 1993–94 season in the Premiership, with Leicester City winning the final 3–1 on aggregate. The top two teams in the Football League first Division gained automatic promotion to the Premier League. SwINDON finished twelve points behind West Ham United and twenty behind league winners Newcastle United. Leicester were placed third in the league and took part in play-ups, along with Portsmouth and Tranmere Roers. The teams placed from third to sixth in the table took part in play off semi- finals. The last team to reach the final was Leicester City, who beat Derby County 2-1 in the final 2–0 on aggregate to win the final. The winner of the final would be crowned champions of the 1993-94 Premier League season. The winning team would then play in the 1994 FA Cup final against Manchester United.
