After promotion to the Süper Lig in 2007, the club was bought by new owners with alleged ties to the ruling Justice and Development Party. In 2014, the team’s name changed to Medipol Başaksehir, meaning ‘The Coach and Horses’ They won their first top flight title in the 2019–20 season.

They won their first top flight title in the 2019–20 season. They also became only the sixth club in the competition’s history to win the league title and the fourth club from Istanbul.
