The fireworks are launched off the London Eye and from barges in the Thames at midnight. The countdown is accompanied by the chimes of Big Ben, and a digital countdown timer projected onto the Shell Centre. Since 2011–12, themes have been introduced with the displays: the fireworks are broadcast on BBC One and BBC News.
