Roger Harry Daltrey CBE is an English singer, songwriter, actor and film producer. He is a co-founder and the lead singer of the rock band the Who. Roger Harry Daltrey CBE is an English singer, songwriter, actor and film producer. He is a co-founder and the lead singer of the rock band the Who. The Who are considered one of the most influential rock bands of the 20th century. He has released ten solo studio albums, five compilation albums, and one live album. He and Pete Townshend received Kennedy Center Honors in 2008 and The George and Ira Gershwin Award for Lifetime Musical Achievement at UCLA on 21 May 2016. Planet Rock listeners voted him rock’s fifth-greatest voice in 2009, and he was ranked number 61 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 greatest singers of all time in 2010. He made his first guitar from a block of wood in 1957, a cherry red Stratocaster replica, and joined a skiffle band called the Detours, who were in need of a lead singer. In 1959, he became the lead guitarist for the band; soon afterwards he was expelled from school for tobacco smoking. He showed academic promise in the English state school system, ranking at the top of his class on the eleven-plus examination that led to his enrollment at the Acton County Grammar School. He was fired from the band in late 1965 after he beat up their drummer Keith Moon for supplying illegal drugs to Town shend and John Entwistle. The band’s second single, Anyhow, captured a stuttering expression of youthful anger, frustration, and arrogance in the band’s breakthrough single, “My Generation” He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990, and the UK Music Hall of fame in 2005.

He currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two children, and has a son and a daughter, both of whom he has raised on his own. He lives with his partner of 40 years, the former singer of The Who, Pete Town Shend, and their daughter, Cheryl, in the Los Angeles suburb of Brentford, California. The couple have a son, Geoffrey, who is also a singer-songwriter, and a step-son, David, who lives in New York City with his mother, Stephanie, and a brother, Paul, who has a wife and a son who lives in San Francisco. He had a son with the former bandmate, singer/songwriter/guitarist David Walliams, who died in a car crash in 2007. He has also had a successful solo career, releasing ten solo albums and five compilation albums.
