Justin Vernon

Justin DeYarmond Edison Vernon is an American singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist. He is best known as the primary songwriter and frontman of indie folk band Bon Iver. Vernon is also a member of the bands Volcano Choir, Big Red Machine, The Shouting Matches, and Gayngs.

Vernon attended Memorial High School in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where he still resides today. He formed his first band, Mount Vernon, in 1997 after meeting its members at a high school Wisconsin jazz camp. Vernon came to international prominence with For Emma, Forever Ago, which he recorded isolated in a northern Wisconsin cabin during the winter months of 2006 and 2007, while he was going through health and personal difficulties.

Vernon contributed vocals to seven songs on Anaïs Mitchell’s 2010 album Hadestown, based on the Greek legend Orpheus and Eurydice. On August 9, 2019, Vernon released his fourth album, “i,i”, to much critical acclaim. Vernon has received widespread acclaim for his work, predominantly with Bon Ivers, but has also collaborated with artists such as Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Elton John. He has also played in the band At The Mouth, which released their debut album, Grown Man, in 2013, and released a 5-track EP, 5-oil, in 2014. Vernon was invited to collaborate on various Kanye West’s albums, including Twisted Fantasy, My Beautiful Dark Fantasy, and That’s My Bitch, as well as the song “Lost in the World”
