About Millennials in brief

Summary MillennialsMillennials, also known as Generation Y, are the demographic cohort following Generation X and preceding Generation Z. Most millennials are the children of baby boomers and early Gen Xers; millennials are often the parents of Generation Alpha. This generation is generally marked by elevated usage of and familiarity with the Internet, mobile devices, and social media. The Great Recession and COVID-19 recession have had a major impact on this generation because they have caused historically high levels of unemployment among young people. Many millennials are 39 to 39 years old, and many are choosing to choose to live in the 21st century rather than the 20th. They are sometimes called Echo Boomers, due to them often being the offspring of the baby boomer, the significant increase in birth rates from the early 1980s to mid-1990s, and their generation’s large size relative to that of boomers. They also are known as the Boomerang Generation or Peter Pan Generation because of their perceived tendency for delaying some rites of passage into adulthood for longer periods than most generations before them. They have also been called the Me Me Me Generation because they are more confident, assertive, and entitled than ever before. They were born between 1981 and 1996, with 1981 to 1996 a widely accepted defining range for the generation. The Pew Research Center defines millennials as having been born between the ages of 21 and 24. The definition for millennials is a wide-wide accepted concept, but the Economist says that millennials are squishy, but that that that definition is a squishy concept in 2018.

The Economist says millennials are more likely to define adult based on certain personal abilities and characteristics rather than more traditional \”rite of passage\” events such as marriage and childbearing. In 2012, an Advertising Age editorial coined the phrase Generation Y to describe teenagers of the day, then aged 13–19, who were at the time defined as different from Generation X. A past director of data strategy at Ad Age said to NPR that the Generation Y label was a placeholder until we found out more about them. In 2013, Time magazine ran a cover story titled Millennials: The Me me Me Generation. Alternative names for this group proposed include the Net Generation, Generation 911, Generation Next, and The Burnout Generation. In the United States, the echo boom’s birth rates peaked in August 1990 and a twentieth-century trend toward smaller families in developed countries continued. The high cost of housing and higher education, and the relative affluence of older generations, are among the factors driving the trend. The majority want to get married they just want to do it right the first time, the same thing with their careers. In prior generations, you get married and you start a career and you do that immediately. What young people today are seeing is that approach has led to divorces, to people unhappy with their career, and people unhappy in their careers … The majority of young people want to start a life with a partner and have a family.
