Naruto is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto. It is the fourth best-selling manga series in history, selling 250 million copies worldwide. The manga was adapted into an anime television series produced by Pierrot and Aniplex. The English adaptation of the series aired on Cartoon Network and YTV from 2005 to 2009. A sequel to the original series, premiered in Japan in 2007, and ended in 2017, after 500 episodes.

The English adaptation of the series aired on Cartoon Network and YTV from 2005 to 2009. A sequel to the original series, premiered in Japan in 2007, and ended in 2017, after 500 episodes. Other Naruto-related merchandise includes light novels, video games, and trading cards developed by several companies. Viz Media licensed the manga and anime for North American production and serialized it in their digital Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. It has become one of Viz Media’s best- selling manga series; their English translations of the volumes have appeared on USA Today and The New York Times bestseller list several times. The seventh volume won a Quill Award in 2006. The story of Boruto Uzumaki, Boruto’s son, continues with Boruto: Naruto Next Generations: Boruto wishes to create his own ninja way instead of following his father’s. The anime series began airing in the U.S. and Canada in 2005, and in the United Kingdom and Australia in 2006 and 2007, respectively. The first film from the series was released in movie theaters, with the first film premiering inMovie theaters in December 2012.

The second film premiered in Movie theaters in March 2013. The third film premiered on March 14, 2014, and has been released in theaters since March 15, 2014. The fourth film was released on March 16, 2015, and the fifth on March 17, 2015. The sixth and seventh volumes were released in March and April 2015, respectively, in Japan and the United States and Canada. The eighth and ninth volumes will be released in October and November 2015, as well as in Europe and Australia. The series is set in the Land of Fire, one of the Five Great Shinobi Countries in the Ninja World. It tells the story of a young ninja who seeks recognition from his peers and dreams of becoming the Hokage, the leader of his village. A powerful fox known as the Nine-Tails attacks Konoha and the Fourth Hokage seals the fox inside the body of his newborn son, Naruto Uzumaki. This costs the father his life and the Third Hokage returns from retirement to become a leader of Konoha again. Because of a decree made by the third Hokage forbidding anyone to mention these events,Naruto knows nothing about the nine-tails until 12 years later, when Mizuki, a renegade ninja, reveals the truth to him. He then defeats Mizuki in combat, earning the respect of his teacher Iruka Umino. Shortly afterward, Naruto becomes a ninja and joins with Sasuke Uchiha, against whom he often competes, and Sakura Haruno, on Team 7.
