About Molly Ringwald in brief
Molly Kathleen Ringwald is an American actress and author. She is known for her collaborations with filmmaker John Hughes. Ringwald rose to prominence with her breakout role in Sixteen Candles. Since 2017, Ringwald has portrayed Mary Andrews on The CW television series Riverdale. She was ranked number 1 on VH1’s 100 Greatest Teen Stars. She has two siblings, Beth and Kelly, and an older brother who died before she was born. She started her acting career at age five, appearing in a stage production of Alice in Wonderland as the Dormouse. In 1978, at the age of 10 Ringwald was chosen to play Kate in the West Coast production of Annie, performing in Los Angeles. In 1979, she appeared on the TV series Diff’rent Strokes and was selected to become part of a very large cast of that show’s spin-off The Facts of Life. She later starred in The Pick-up Artist, Fresh Horses and For Keeps. She starred in many films in the 1990s, most notably Something to Live for: The Alison Gertz Story, The Stand, and Some Folks Call It a Sling Blade. In 2011, she starred as Andie Walsh in the film Pretty In Pink. She turned down a role in another John Hughes film, Some Kind of Wonderful, as she felt it was too similar to the other films she worked on with Hughes. The film was scrapped when Hughes refused to rewrite the script-to-to rewrite the film would have been about a-to have been a much more mature role for Ringwald. In 2012, she played the lead role in a film about a girl whose sixteenth birthday is forgotten by her family, The Breakfast Club, which was a commercial and critical success. The following year, still in high school, she acted in another successful film, Andie And And Andie, and in 2013 she played Andie in Some Kind Of Wonderful, and the film was a box-office success. In 2014, she had a small role in the movie The Book of Life, in which she played a young woman who learns to read. She also starred in the independent film Tempest, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination for New Star of the Year.
