Gerald Rafferty was a Scottish rock singer-songwriter. His solo hits in the late 1970s included ‘Baker Street’ and ‘Night Owl’ He was influenced by the music of The Beatles and Bob Dylan. He died in 2011 at the age of 69.

Summary Gerry RaffertyGerald Rafferty was a Scottish rock singer-songwriter. His solo hits in the late 1970s included ‘Baker Street’ and ‘Night Owl’ He was born into a working-class family in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland. His mother taught him both Irish and Scottish folk songs when he was a boy. Later, he was influenced by the music of The Beatles and Bob Dylan. He joined the folk-pop group The Humblebums in 1969. After they disbanded in 1971, he recorded his first solo album, Can I Have My Money Back? He and Joe Egan formed the group Stealers Wheel in 1972 and produced several hits, most notably ‘Stuck in the Middle with You’ He later recorded his second solo album ‘City to City’ in 1978, which included his most popular song. He died in 2011 at the age of 69. He is survived by his daughter, Martha, and son-in-law, Jim. He was married to his long-term girlfriend, the late Joanne McAlister, until her death in 2011. He had two brothers, Jim and Joe. He also had a son, James, and a daughter,  Martha Rafferty, who died in 2012. He has two sons, James and Jim, who are also musicians. He wrote a book about alienation and creativity, which became a huge influence on his life and his outlook on the world.
