In 2017, he signed with the Express during the AAF’s inaugural season, but was released the following year and rendered ineligible to play in the CFL after it was determined he violated the terms of his contract. The Express was cut short when the AAAF suspended operations two weeks later. In 2018, he played in the NFL’s preseason game against the New England Patriots and was traded to the Toronto Argonauts. In 2011, Manziel won the U.S. Army All-Star Game.
