Minogue released her fourteenth studio album, Golden, in April 2018. She then released her fourth major greatest hits album, Step Back in Time: The Definitive Collection in June 2019, which also debuted at number one in the United Kingdom and Australia. Work continued on Disco during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, with Minogue using a home studio to record throughout lockdown. Approximately 90% of the album was created via her home studio, with the album’s theme of escapism during lockdown restrictions. The lead single, \”Say Something\”, was released as the lead single on 23 July of the same year and premiered on BBC Radio 2. It peaked at number 56 on the UK Singles Chart and reached number nine on the Singles Downloads and Sales charts. In the United States, it debuted atnumber three on Billboard’s DanceElectronic Digital Song Sales chart.

The second single,\”Magic\”, wasreleased on 24 September while a promotional song, \”I Love It\” was released a month later, on 23 October. The music video for the song was directed by Sophie Muller and filmed at the Black Island Studios in London, England. It depicts Minogue travelling through the universe mounted upon a golden horse sculpture, shooting lasers from her hands and flying on a hovercraft. According to Minogue, although she has written songs on every one of her albums since 1990, it is the first time she has engineered her own work. The song was cut alongside the album cut, while the track appeared with the track on streaming services. It debuted at the number 75 on the Scottish Singles chart and number nine in the UK. The video was filmed at a nightclub in Farringdon, London, although Minogue is seen dancing in a golden throne while sitting on a throne, although wearing a goldenuit. It also features Minogue dancing in the club alongside several dancers and sitting on the throne while wearing a gold jumpsuit, although although she jumps to her feet.
