The Trapp Family was an Austrian singing family of the former naval commander Georg von Trapp. The family achieved fame in their original singing career in their native Austria during the interwar period. They also performed in the United States before emigrating there permanently to escape the deteriorating situation in Austria during World War II. In the U.S, they became well known as the \”Trapp Family Singers\” until they ceased to perform as a unit in 1957. The last surviving of the original seven Trapp children, Maria Franziska, died in 2014 at the age of 99.

In the U.S, they became well known as the \”Trapp Family Singers\” until they ceased to perform as a unit in 1957. The last surviving of the original seven Trapp children, Maria Franziska, died in 2014 at the age of 99. The story later served as the basis for a memoir, two German films, the Broadway musical and film The Sound of Music. Two members of the group died while the group was still active, Georg in 1947 at age 67 and Martina, who died in childbirth in 1952 at age 30.

The eldest daughter published her own account of the Trapp family in 2003, which was later turned into the film Before and After The Sound Of Music. After the group’s demise in 1957, Maria’s son Johannes kept the group together for so long long as he had kept the family together. He died in 2015 at age 94. The original seven children were: Rupert, Agathe, Werner, Johanna, Rosmarie, Eleonie and Johannes. The later children were Agathe, EleonIE, Eleonsie and Johanna Hedanna ; Johannes Hedanna. The oldest daughter, Maria, died at age 99 in 2014 and was the last surviving member of the family to die.
