Cody Rhodes

Cody Garrett Runnels Rhodes is an American professional wrestler, promoter, businessman, and actor. He is signed to All Elite Wrestling as an in-ring performer and executive vice president. Rhodes is the son of wrestler Dusty Rhodes and the half-brother of fellow wrestler Dustin Runnels. He joined WWE in 2006 and remained there for nine years, performing under his real name and later under the gimmick of Stardust. In September 2018, he won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, with he and Dusty becoming the first father and son to win the title.

He joined WWE in 2006 and remained there for nine years, performing under his real name and later under the gimmick of Stardust. Rhodes left WWE after requesting his release in May 2016. In September 2018, he won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, with he and Dusty becoming the first father and son to win the title. All totaled between WWE, AEW, NWA, ROH, and NJPW, Rhodes has held 14 total championships. He wrestled under the shortened name Cody due to WWE owning the \”Cody Rhodes\” name, until 2020 when he winning the rights back after a legal battle. In January 2019, Rhodes was unveiled as an executive vicepresident of the newly formed All Elite wrestling, where he would also serve as a wrestler. He has also appeared as a referee in his father’s Turnbuckle Championship Wrestling promotion. He won the IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion and a one-time ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion in September 2017. He also competed at Ring of Honor’s Final Battle and the New Japan Pro-Wrestling Wrestle Kingdom events as well as appearing for TNA at Bound for Glory. He was a two-time Georgia state champion as a junior and senior.

He placed sixth in the 171 lb division as a sophomore. He had planned to wrestle collegiately at Penn State University, but decided to become a professional wrestler instead. In May 2006, Rhodes began wrestling in Ohio Valley Wrestling in May 2006. He became a Triple Crown Champion in OVW and was promoted to WWE’s main roster in 2007. He would later win the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship with Shawn Spears in mid-August 2006. In November 2006, Runnels and Spears defeated The Untouchables in a tag team match, and won the services of Cherry, The Untouchedables’ manager. This rift started when Runnels became jealous of Spears’ success as a singles wrestler and became involved in a scripted rivalry with each other. Shortly afterward, he and Spears became involved with Deuce ‘nino’ Domino in a street fight. On November 29, 2007, the two teams were drawn in a draw for the vacant championship. A rematch between the teams was held the following week, with Runnels winning the championship for the second time. On December 20, Runnels and Spears regained the championship from Paul Burch, who won the house show at a house show on February 17, 2007. On February 29, 2008, they defeated Deuce ‘nino’ Domino to win the championship. On March 17, 2009, they won the championship in a rematch for a second time, this time with the help of Cherry.
