About 2020 Romanian legislative election in brief

Summary 2020 Romanian legislative electionThe 329 members of the Chamber of Deputies are elected by several methods. 308 are elected from 42 multi-member constituencies based on counties and Bucharest. Four are elected using proportional representation from a constituency representing Romanians living abroad. Further seats can be added for ethnic minority groups that compete in the elections and pass a special threshold. The previous election led to a large victory for Liviu Dragnea’s Social Democratic Party, although it fell short of an absolute majority.

PSD was estimated to have won around 30% of the votes, PNL around 25%, USR-PLUS around 15%, AURMR around 6%. The high result of the quasi-unknown party AUR was considered a huge surprise, while PM UDP barely managed to pass the 5% parliamentary threshold and PRO Romania to get 5% of votes required to win any seats.
